Be Proud Of Your Kids Before They Win!
Be proud of your kids.
Be proud of your kids for their positive efforts.
My daughter recently won some awards at a regional science fair. And,
of course I am very proud of her for the success she experienced.
Something she said to me after the contest made me prouder still.
I experienced a moment of clarity and I wanted to share it with you.
After she came off the stage she thanked me for being proud
of her, and encouraging her efforts, many months earlier when the science
project
was just an idea. This was long before she entered the
contest and way before she was awarded on the stage.
She told me, “Dad, you were just as proud of me when
I first approached you with the science project idea as you are
now that I have these awards.“ She continued,
“You are most proud
of me for trying my best. I love you dad!“
The insight I gained from this interaction was that parents need to support
and encourage their children's efforts long before they ever become public. Those
efforts may
may not ever be recognized or rewarded by others.
But a child's foundation is strengthened when they know that we are
there in the quiet time…encouraging, guiding
and assisting…before the cheers,
the applause, and the awards. They must know that we are with
them all the way in their positive endeavors.
I choose to believe that a child with such a foundation cannot
help but reach for their full potential and their greatest dreams.
Be proud of your kids.
